Me! Me! (8-20/40)

8. What was your biggest achievement of the year?

Possibly Every Single One. Because it's a damn big website, it was created manually and is maintained so, and is all mine. There was originally a co-owner, but I can say in complete honesty that she did absolutely nothing for the site. It's a big site. It scares me sometimes just how big it's getting. I don't have full access to stats for it, but from what Cathy has sent me I know that between 1st and 12th of december I had almost 14000 hits, using up a grand total of over 240mb of bandwidth from only html and txt files. So the a-levels that didn't actually turn out too well can piss off, because I'm far prouder of this site.

9. What was your biggest failure?

This should probably be something academic. I didn't do as well as everyone thought I should. I mean, I don't think of it as a failure so much, because I expected far worse and have been telling the world as loud as my voice will go for the last 4 years that I will never be anything but a disaster in all these daft subjects. So I don't think it should be counted as a general failure, because there wasn't anything specific I was trying to acheive. In fact, you could say that I failed to get the grades to take up my place at Oxford, but I'd say I succeeded in managing to avoid ending up at that place of dread. There are some things about the way I dealt with the whole situation that probably aren't a very good reflection of who I am, however, and I am a little uneasy about this aspect of my personality.

10. Did you suffer illness or injury?

Yes. I died. Many times.

11. What was the best thing you bought?

Probably my ticket for Hyperion. This convention sold out in roughly two weeks, and I have a ticket for it. I feel very smug. Of course, it has yet to prove itself as 'the best thing I've bought' because I have yet to attend it, but I have no doubt that it will be an absolutely amazing time, and that many will be jealous of me.

12. Whose behaviour merited celebration?

You, because you're gorgeous and wonderful and I can't think of anyone else.

13. Whose behavior made you appalled and depressed?

My relatives. I suddenly seem to have realised that one set is completely sexist, and the other spends the whole time complaining about my 90-year old great aunt. Both sets have said some things that have just made me get up and leave the room.

14. Where did most of your money go?

Conventions. Travel. Cds, Dvds, books. Wouldn't have listed books a couple of days ago, but I just took a look at the graphic novels I've bought recently and it's adding up. One thing I have not spent much money on is food. There was a point when I did my biggest/first shop in over a month and a half, and it came to £4.60. This has become a family joke, and everyone seems to have bought me food for Christmas.

15. What did you get really, really, really excited about?

RotK. Matrix. Various math related things. I'm going to stop right there, because there are levels of my geekdom that I'm just not ready to come out about.

16. What song will always remind you of 2003?

Errr... Gollum's Song? Startrekking? Mad World? The Craig David Bagpuss mix that Aquarion permanently scarred me with? Knowing my luck it'll probably be startrekking, just because it's the most annoying one on the list.

17. Compared to this time last year, are you:

i. happier or sadder? Happier
ii. thinner or fatter? Thinner. Have lost about a stone. Or at least I had before Christmas.
iii. richer or poorer? Richer. Well, in debt, but with more money in general. I'm not sure if that really counts. Positive thinking, however, is determined to interpret this as richer.

18. What do you wish you'd done more of?

Engaging in stuff and life that was actually about me. Creative stuff.

19. What do you wish you'd done less of?

Escapism.

20. How did you spend Christmas?

Um, I read fic. You think I'm joking? I did all the family stuff, then spent the evening catching up on the Folly Of Starlight series. Which, by the way, is absolutely amazing. One of the few fics that seems to manage to keep the general style of Middle-Earth throughout. Sort of odd that AC, the writer, still manages to throw Elrond and Legolas into bed together, but it's so well researched that it's just utterly convincing. How else did I spend Christmas? I did typical, boring Christmas things, except without the turkey, cos, well, vegetarian.
