Thoroughly Mind-Boggled

I go to see a lot of movies. I mean, really, a lot of movies. Well over twenty since January, not counting dvds. I don't like to bore you (well, more than I normally do) so I don't mention most of them here.

However, Zatoichi is truly extraordinary.

It is without doubt the best Japanese samurai action romantic comedy musical I have ever seen.

There are blood feuds, pretty swords, concealed swords, elaborate tatoos, mafia gangs, more swords, and a confusing number of ganglords. Lots of blood flying all over the place, gambling dens, stunning countryside, beautiful houses.

There are also men in serious drag (in kimonos.) And tap-dancing (in kimonos.)

If you get the chance you should go see it. If only so that I don't remain the only person with their brain completely scrambled.
